Synopsis

This work describes the psychological moments that Jesus might have experienced before and during the Via Crucis: the anxiety about his destiny, the feeling of abandonment by his Father, and his resignation to the expected death.

"The Passion according to the Holy Stick" presents three well-defined elements in a single narrative body:

Mysterious: We find ourselves in what would be "the last supper", a calm atmosphere of rejoicing and camaraderie turns into a moment of surprise and doubt, as Jesus announces that he will be betrayed by one of his apostles. Vivace molto agitato: The apostles try to find out who will betray Jesus, they want to dispel the doubts and the morbid curiosity of knowing his name. Then, with a silence, he announces and gives the blessing for him to do what he has to do.

Lento: One of the most poignant scenes is told: the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus asks and claims to his Father for having left him alone in this difficult moment. The use of the hands produces an effect that allows us to immerse ourselves, introspectively, in the sadness, desolation, and desperation that accompanies the sad song of abandonment... Poco mosso: We can see the guard, guided by Judas, approaching Getsemaní. Vivace: The guard of the Sanhedrin is near while Jesus continues his melancholic song, his prayer to his Father. They approach, and the song continues, they approach and the tension is great. The apostles announce: they are here...

Tempo I: Although it is a re-exposition, it contains another type of argument. The apostles feel helpless, they see Jesus being arrested, they see Judas kiss Jesus, they see the guard take him away. Molto vivace: We see a Jesus in pain and tired, carrying his cross before the astonished gaze of the world. They punish him, they flog him: more and more intensely, represented by a particular and recurring blow throughout this moment. We can feel the fury of those who hate, that part of human nature that we try to hide shamefully...
He is crucified on Mount Calvary, agonizing and accepting his destiny. Praying for those who do not know what they do. A spear pierces his body... he is gone...
